After church my mother messaged asking for some rolled dasheen bush, so I headed to the Sangre Grande market. By the time I got there most of the vendors had already sold out, but someone pointed me in the direction of Ms. Chandrowtee Basanta, better known as “Chan.”

What was meant to be a quick stop just to buy a few leaves turned into a really nice conversation about life and everything in between.
